The show has double the number of registrants compared to last year, the festival will be held from the 11th to the 16th of June, in the city of Goiás.
The International Environmental Film and Video Festival (Fica 2024) received 1,078 entries. The number represents more than double the number of films registered in the 2023 edition. The festival, which will be held from the 11th to the 16th of June, in the city of Goiás, will award prizes ranging from R$ 5 thousand to R$ 35 thousand, in addition to trophies and honorable mentions. 12 feature films and 30 short films will be selected, among which three will be from Goiás.
Productions from 76 countries compete at the festival, with films for the Washington Novaes International Exhibition coming from countries in Asia, America, Africa, Europe and Oceania. The Secretary of Culture, Yara Nunes, highlights that the new record highlights the relevance of Fica beyond the borders of the state and Brazil. “Once again, the number of participants exceeded our expectations. This shows the importance of Fica for the audiovisual market inside and outside the country”, he states.
In total, 900 proposals were registered for the Washington Novaes International Exhibition, which represents an increase of 83.5% compared to the previous year; 103 for the Goiano Film Festival, with productions from across the state; 21 films from the city of Goiás for the Becos da Minha Terra Exhibition; and 54 films for the Indigenous and Traditional Peoples Exhibition. From Brazil, productions from Roraima, Amazonas, Bahia, São Paulo, Mato Grosso and Minas Gerais, among others, are registered.
The committees responsible for evaluating audiovisual material are made up of professionals with notable experience and knowledge in the area and, for the most part, are made up of members chosen from a public call, also counting on nominations from the State University of Goiás (UEG) and the State Council of Culture of the State of Goiás.
About the festival
The 25th edition of Fica is organized by the Government of Goiás, through the State Secretariat for Culture (Secult), in collaboration with the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), through the Educational Radio and Television Foundation (RTVE). The festival also has support from the Goiás Social program; of the State Secretariats for Resumption; of Science, Technology and Innovation (Secti); and Environment and Sustainable Development (Semad); State University of Goiás (UEG), Federal Institute of Goiás (IFG); Social Service of Commerce (Sesc) and City Hall of the city of Goiás.
The program is free and will feature competitive exhibitions, debates with big names in national and international cinema, environmental activities, in addition to cultural attractions.
