'A Flor do Buriti', a film by Portuguese João Salaviza and Brazilian Renée Nader Messora, was awarded last Friday (26), at the renowned Cannes Film Festival. In Brazil, the film that portrays the resistance of indigenous Brazilians will be released at the International Environmental Film and Video Festival (FICA), in the city of Goiás.
Fabiana Assis, film consultant at FICA, says that after the film was awarded at Cannes, expectations for the Brazilian premiere at the festival became even greater. “This highlights the attentive look of FICA’s artistic consultancy and connects the festival with quality audiovisual productions that are being carried out in Brazil and around the world.”, he states.
The film, which portrays the resistance of the Krahô people in northern Tocantins, is the directors' second production in partnership with the indigenous community. Fabiana also comments that the film is the result of a years-long partnership between the directors and the indigenous people.
'A Flor do Buriti' is also part of the 'Films to Postpone the End of the World' exhibition. “We chose the film to be part of the exhibition with the aim of giving prominence to the indigenous cause and resistance”, he highlights.
