The International Environmental Film and Video Festival (Fica) already has the winning films for this 25th edition. The awards ceremony took place this Sunday morning (16/06), at Cine Teatro São Joaquim, and was attended by Yara Nunes, Secretary of State for Culture, the pro-rector of Extension and Culture at UFG, Luana Ribeiro , the mayor of the city of Goiás, Aderson Gouvea, and other authorities.
Fica is carried out by the Government of Goiás, through the State Secretariat for Culture (Secult), in co-organization with the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), through the Educational Radio and Television Foundation (RTVE). The festival program ends this Sunday with the singer Silva's show, a performance by Sesc Goiás, at Praça de Eventos, starting at 7pm.
During the six-day event, more than 100 films were shown in four competitive screenings and special sessions. This year, Fica is distributing R$ 220 thousand in prizes across its four competitive exhibitions. In addition, the festival pays a fee for licensing the screening of all selected films, a total of R$ 176 thousand in licenses alone.
“We have now closed the 25th edition of Fica, obviously already thinking about the 26th edition, but this is only possible because we have that beautiful and satisfying feeling of mission, of duty accomplished”, assesses the Secretary of State for Culture, Yara Nunes.
The big winner of this edition at the Washington Novaes exhibition was the feature film There will be no more history without us, by Priscilla Reges Brasil, which received the Cora Coralina award, worth R$ 35 thousand. “I thank Fica. The debates here were highly stimulating, I hope this will serve in the coming years with global movements thinking about the environment”, declares Raphael Uchôa, screenwriter who received the award at the ceremony.
The Acari Passos award, which defines the best short or medium-length film worth 15 thousand, in addition to a trophy, went to Bibiru: Kaikuxi Panema, by Latsu Apalai and André Lopes.
Still within the festival's main exhibition, the João Bennio award for best film from Goiás, worth R$ 20 thousand, went to the short film Consumidos, by Caco Pereira. The best direction went to Fernanda Polacow, for Big Bang Henda, and won the Carmo Bernardes prize, worth R$ 10 thousand.
The feature Granada was the big surprise of the ceremony. The production won in five categories: “It was a film that took a decade to complete. It's a film that touches people a lot, because it touches us as a society and individuals. It's a film that stands out for Goiânia. For me, it is an immense achievement to receive these five awards here”, celebrates director Benedito Ferreira.
The films were evaluated in several categories within each competitive exhibition. In addition to cash and trophy prizes, the festival also awarded honorable mentions. Artist Sallisa Rosa and filmmaker Larissa Fernandes were the people from Goiás honored in this edition.

Multicultural event
Fica 2024 had a vast free program, with competitive exhibitions, debates with big names in national and international cinema, environmental activities and cultural attractions.
During the festival, which took place between the 11th and 16th of June, more than 100 films were shown, 40 panels and debates, six conferences, 20 shows, dozens of artistic presentations, 18 workshops and short courses, three exhibitions, in addition to sustainability.
The festival was supported by the Goiás Social program; of the State Secretariats for Resumption; of Science, Technology and Innovation (Secti); and Environment and Sustainable Development (Semad); Saneago; State University of Goiás (UEG), Federal Institute of Goiás (IFG); Social Service of Commerce (Sesc) and City Hall of the city of Goiás. This year the event also has as supporters the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), The Nature Conservancy, MapBiomas, Museu Nacional dos Povos Indigenous/Funai, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), Kelldrin Group and Saga BYD.
