Around 300 students wrote the 1st Children's Charter of Vila Boa with demands for the environment. Document will be handed over to authorities and placed in a “time capsule” to be reopened in 25 years
Around 300 children from the 5th year of the first phase of Elementary School from municipal and private networks in the city of Goiás participated in the plenary session of the Children's Forum on climate change this Friday (14/06), at the Cine Teatro São Joaquim, as part of the programming of the 25th International Environmental Film and Video Festival (Fica). On the occasion, the students read and presented the I Carta Infantil de Vila Boa, the document of intentions to be delivered to the authorities, and closed the “time capsule”.
Fica is carried out by the Government of Goiás, through the State Secretariat for Culture (Secult), in co-organization with the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), through the Educational Radio and Television Foundation (RTVE). The festival continues until next Sunday (16/06).
During the plenary, two students from each of the 14 participating schools read the document, which was written collectively, and in which the students' main demands related to environmental issues were included. In the letter, the children indicate several suggestions, ranging from awareness campaigns with the community to the creation of public policies and supervision by public authorities.
Also during the event, the Esperançar Committee was presented, created to monitor, together with the authorities, the students' requests in the letter. The Forum coordinator, professor Angela Oliveira, representatives and students from each school are part of the committee. “Those two words 'Children's Forum' have already convinced me. I believe in the potential of each child and in education”, says Angela.
A copy of the I Carta Infantil de Vila Boa was placed in a “time capsule” that will only be reopened in 25 years, when it will be possible to evaluate the results of the demands. The object will be located at the Cine Teatro São Joaquim. Furthermore, another copy will also be delivered to the state governor, mayor of the city of Goiás, and other authorities at the festival's awards ceremony, on Sunday.
